Cisco Systems has leveraged the power of organizational behavior to become one of the world’s leading high technology companies which is spread over 165 countries and has more than 65,000 employees in different hierarchical levels and features in FORTUNE 100 companies. The paper will demonstrate a cultural and operational assessment and analyze whether organization’s behavior fits the organizational development theory. Analysis will help in determining organizational philosophy, mission, vision, values and the work environment. It will enlighten the teaching and role modeling carried out by the leaders in different departments and the way these leaders address the change. The significance of people as the main asset of organizational prosperity and the importance of leadership roles will be demonstrated.

Vision Statement is “Changing the way we work, live, play, and learn.”(Cisco). Values are Trust/integrity, giving back, inclusion, continues improvement, profit contribution (frugality), no technology religion, collaboration/teamwork, quality team, innovation, open communication Mission Statement is Global mission: “ To shape the future of the Internet by creating unprecedented value and opportunity for our customers, employees, investors and ecosystem partners”. (Cisco, Chambers, J. CEO) Asian region mission: "To enable Cisco customers to easily acquire, deploy and maximize their network investments through innovative financing solutions” (Cisco) European markets mission: “Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) enables people to make powerful connections - whether in business, education, philanthropy, or creativity. Cisco hardware, software, and service offerings are used to create the Internet solutions that make networks possible - providing easy access to information anywhere, at any time.” (Cisco). Vision statement shows where organization is heading to. This vision is the product of stewardship of the organization. It clearly states the transformations that organization is entitled to carry out, for the well-being of the whole organization. It motivates all the stakeholders, internal as well as external. It also reflects the way the organization pursues its path of development and promotion on the market. Interestingly enough different regions have their own missions, which show that the organization adapts and accepts cultural differences. Global and European mission statements stress the importance of people either customers or employees, while the Asian mission emphasizes the importance of customers and their investments. From operational point of view Cisco concentrates on developing and manufacturing products that are standardized or have typical architecture, which requires minimum modification. This simplifies supply-chain management by reducing the number of manufacturing partners to generate larger number of similar or identical components and be capable to do more wide-ranging and accurate testing using less amount of components. This approach prompts the distribution of knowledge across the groups and promotes more reliable procedures for manufacturing and testing.
