HOW IS IMPORTANT PERSONALITY
FOR THE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR

Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 What is organizational behavior?
Organizational behavior is a field of study that devoted to understanding, explaining, and ultimately improving the attitudes and behaviors of individuals and groups and structures in human behavior with organizations. It is an interdisciplinary field that includes sociology, psychology, communication, and management. Organizational behavior complements organizational theory, which focuses on organizational and intra-organizational topics, and complements human resource studies, which is more focused on everyday business practices. Whenever people interact in organizations, many factors come into play. The subject of Organizational Studies attempts to understand and model these factors. It is becoming more important, because people with diverse backgrounds and cultural values have to work together effectively and efficiently. Organizational behavior seeks to emphasize the understanding of behavior in organizations, in which to develop competencies in foreseeing how people are likely to behave. This knowledge can help in controlling those behaviors that are not befitting the objectives of the organizations. Factors such as objectivity, reliability and sustainability are important while selecting the methods for this purpose. Questionnaire, interview, simulation and survey are play a very important role and used to elicit responses of individuals located in different types of organizations. To a large extent their personalities affect the nature of their responses. 1.2 What is personality?

Almost every day we describe and assess the personalities of the people around us. Whether we realize it or not, in some ways we are all the same. We all have the same human nature. We share a common humanity. We all have human bodies and human minds, we all have human thoughts and human feelings. in other ways we are all completely different and unique. No two people are truly alike. No two people can ever have the same experience of life, the same perspective, the same mind. Somewhere between these two — our common humanity and our unique individuality — lies personality. These daily musings on how and why people behave as they do are similar to what personality psychologists do. While our informal assessments of personality tend to focus more on individuals, personality psychologists instead use conceptions of personality that can apply to everyone. Personality research has led to the development of a number of theories that help explain how and why certain personality traits develop. Personality is about our different ways of being human. How we are all variations on the same themes. How the human nature we all share manifests in different styles of thinking, feeling and acting. Personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. The study of personality focuses on two broad areas: One is to understand individual differences in particular personality characteristics, such as sociability or irritability. The other is to understand how the various parts of a person come together as a whole.
