A great American author, Henry David Thoreau, once said “I never found a companion that was as companionable as solitude” (Meditation Quotes). Some people mistake solitude for loneliness and try to escape solitude by being alone by always having people around them, a new boyfriend or girlfriend, or always being on there phone. But they don’t understand, isolation to me is a good and enjoyable event. People should always take some time of everyday to take time for themselves. But sometimes people will be surrounded by people and still be alone which can agonizing for people but out of this pain comes good things. The bible even suggests that we be in solitude in at some point. Solitude is necessary and to be expected for every person.
Solitude is the absence of human activity in a person’s life by choice. This shouldn’t be confused with loneliness; loneliness is a sense of existentialism and despair from either having no human contact or insufficient social interactions and this isn’t by choice. Solitude on the other hand is an event for some people. Solitude is something to look forward to after a long day of work or a just a 30 minute lunch break. There are no rules for solitude and a human can experience whenever that person please. At some point in everyone’s life, there will be a point where it is necessary to just take one minute to them. For example, in Brave New World John sees being alone as the only way he can live the rest of his life so he goes to the light house and finally “And then the solitude! Whole days passed during which he never saw a human being.”(Huxley 186). For John, It so necessary to him that when he realizes that he will never be left alone, he ends his own life. A common way to experience solitude that should be practiced by all is to meditate which has many health benefits. Meditation is tending to the garden of your mind. Meditation isn’t just having legs crossed; eyes closed saying “ummm”. It is much more than that...
