 “Walmart operates over 11,000 retail units under
71 banners in 27 countries and e-commerce
websites in 11 countries” (Walmart Stores, Inc.,
2015).
In 2014, Fortune 500 ranked Walmart as the
number one most profitable corporation in the US.
The following presentation will outline how
Walmart leverages organizational behavior and
management to maximize its success.

Influence of power and politics within
Walmart:
Power in addition to engaging in politics can help
employees influence decisions that impact their
ability to meet the needs of their customers quickly.
Walmart believes in putting the customers needs
first.
Associate’s must have the ability to influence the
decision making process to support this
philosophy.

Organizational Power
Types of Power in the organization:
Mix between formal and informal.
Management hold formal power such as
controlling resources and reward power
which is the ability to award associate’s.
Many associates posses informal power such
as expert power which is gained through
dependence, experience, and knowledge of
their role.

Organizational Power
Who in the chosen department holds the power?
Frontline associate’s hold a substantial amount of power and influence. Between the company’s philosophy and visionary leadership style, the work environment is dependent on associate’s having the ability to make quality decisions quickly during face to face interactions with customers. Walmart must develop, train, and trust employee’s with making quality decisions.

Labor – Management conflict at Walmart:
 Wal-Mart employees argue that they
want improved labor conditions which
led to a labor management conflict
between Wal-Mart, the employees and
the NLRB.
