The movie Little Buddha follows the story of a boy named Jesse who lives in Seattle and is said to be the reincarnation of a dead monk named Lama Dorje. The monks bring Jesse and his father to Bhutan where him and two other children are to be determined if they are really the reincarnation of Lama Dorje. There is also a second story going on in the movie which shows how Siddhartha left his fathers kingdom and became Buddah. The movie follows many of the topics on Buddhism that we covered in class and gives a clear vision to what all the guidelines Buddhists have to follow to reach complete spiritual enlightenment. Although the ending of the movie is pretty vague on some things it gives a pretty good felling of what the life of a Buddhist is like and how spiritual they are and in touch with their inner souls.
In the story of how Siddhartha finds out that the world he knows is a lie and he is being sheltered from the truth by his father after seeing the old men, suffering, and death he sets out the see the world and to find a better understanding of the world. It seems that he is following the Buddhist recognized Middle Way which we talked about in class, The Middle Way details Buddha's Nirvana bound path of moderation away from indulgence and self-mortification and toward the practice of wisdom, morality and mental cultivation. Siddhartha realized this path before his enlightenment and it is basically forgetting the basic standards of everyday life and following a path that comes from within yourself and doing only what feels right, and not letting yourself be influenced by other people and other thoughts which do not come from your own mind.
The three children that where selected by the monks have several visions while in Bhutan of the suffering and progress made toward enlightenment by Siddhartha which makes it a lot easier to understand and feel what he had to go through during his quest .
