My Nursing Philosophy

As I sit here pondering how I would communicate my values and beliefs, I think of my

current job as a personal trainer, similar to nursing, on a daily basis I help individuals with their

personal health both inside and out. In my job there is no room for my values or beliefs, just

facts, education and being a good listener. I believe the day I become a nurse the only “values

and beliefs” that I will need are those contained in the oath I take the day I become a nurse, and

those legally expressed in my Nurse Practice Act. Injecting my beliefs into my practice as a

nurse will most likely violate my oath and responsibilities to my patients

While I hold true to my values and beliefs when it comes to nursing, I strongly believe that

putting peoples basic needs at the top the priority list when it comes to nursing is what separates

good nurses from great nurses. I believe that a nurse should always act in a professional manner

and act in accordance within the scope of practice. Nurses should possess qualities such as;

Empathy and being able to identify with others; be caring, compassionate and committed....
