To explain the challenges faced by today’s organisations, I will first express my understanding on organizational behaviour and further will highlight challenges and explain the problems in context to Indian business.

Managing People

Often managers think managing people is something that they often think they can do, or indeed ought to be able to do. The interesting thing is that it is neither something they have been trained to do, nor something that they have necessarily learnt or taught to do. (Kay et al., 2005, p.79). I too had a similar thought, and with the initial chapters my perspective towards managing people has changed completely.

Organisational Behaviour

Vecchio (2006, p.4) explains, a field of inquiry concerned with scientific study of behavioral process that occurs in work settings, the field of organizational behaviour. It encompasses such topics as employee attitudes, motivation, and performance, to name a few. OB explores a wide range of subjects that span individuals, groups, organization and cultures.

“Organisational behaviour provides a set of tools and insights that allows people to understand, analyze, and describe the way in which one acts or conducts oneself. It allows the managers to improve, enhance or change work behaviours so that individuals, groups and the whole organization can achieve their goals. (Griffin & Moorhead, 2010, p.6)

A field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structure has on behaviour within organisations, for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organisation’s effectiveness. (Robbins & Langton, 2003)

Challenges in Organisational Behaviour

In the age of globalization and ever growing competition, advancing information technology and evolving global environment, the organization continuously thrives to be the best overall performer maintaining growth, stability and sustainability.

Kundu & Malhan, (n.d) explains, “Competitive advantage of a company can be generated from human resources and company performance is influenced by a set of effective HRM practices”. Employee’s plays a vital role in implementing strategies related from product development to customer satisfaction for the organization to enhance its market performance. With employees/workers from different geographic locations, ethnicity, cultures, and skill sets makes difficult for an organization to set a common goal keeping everything in mind.

Equality in employment, division of work, diversity in workforce, and employment ethics are some of the challenges today common across all organisations. Study results have noticed few important challenges that have gained importance and that are present at all levels, disturbing the work settings of an organization.
